I was at Half Price Books last week and I came across a paperback edition of a 1981 book called “Moral Panic: How Fear and Morality are Crippling America” by Dr. Gregory Jensen. The guy’s rants get progressively less intelligible, but in the book’s first chapter he provides his readers with a pretty good description of the end of Neville’s career:

Kind of interesting, no? Even outside of comic book circles, the firing of Ben Neville lives in infamy.

Remember this article that appeared in Wizard last summer?

If you’re like me, you’re more than just mildly frustrated that Continental keeps pushing the relaunch back. I don’t understand why comic book companies insist on making huge announcements before everything’s in place. I am honestly not upset that the Fox hasn’t made his triumphant debut yet; I’m sure that whatever reason Jason has for holding off (probably so the Fox’s first appearance can tie into another world-shattering crossover event) will be the best thing for the story. What does bother me is that Continental solicited The Fox #1 for December 2007, seemingly without making sure they could have it out by then. Please stop jerking us around!

All this talk of The Fox has got me thinking about how this whole story started, with Ben Neville’s firing from Continental Comics in 1954. Expect a few posts on the history of the subject.

Because if I don’t do something, the angry anticipation will kill me.
