During my last semester of college, I landed the opportunity of a lifetime: an internship in New York City at Continental Periodicals, Fourth Floor.

That’s the editorial bullpen for Continental Comics.

I learned all sorts of important things during my unpaid tenure, about the way the comics industry works, how not to hold a freshly inked bristol board, and how Cliff Beck likes his coffee ( “In a cup!” ), but what I treasure most about my time at Continental was a chance to peek inside the rich history of what I’ve always considered America’s finest comic book company.

I hope you enjoy this journey into some of the pivotal moments in Continental’s past, especially how they relate to what’s happening in its present. Hopefully I’ll make it back inside the Fourth Floor someday, and contribute something to its future.

So check out my first digression, on that most maligned of characters, The Fox Burglar, and his impending resurrection as The Fox.
